Canon to the Left of Them: Characters

As with the Characters page, but for Combat Dome fan fiction.

AZUMI (FWoaN)

Full Name: Azumi Ericho
Other Media: For Want of a Nail
Villainy Status: Heroine
Kill Count: 0… basically
Death Count: 0… probably

History:
Mostly mimics Canon Azumi's, except that in this universe her son remained evil and Joanna was killed before they met. At some point, Azumi was imprisoned in Shin-Ra City, but in a comfortable, well-serviced guest room rather than a cell, indicating that Von IV still had great affection for her. While there, she studied everything she thought she might need to bring her son out of power, and devised a method of escape.
After learning of the existence of her neice Rebecca, she left her prison and, after being nearly killed by Bob and healing herself, she gave the Sourceworlder first aid and was subsequently sent back in time to prevent Bob from screwing up the timelines.
After successfully delivering the Muddy Mugs token Bob had been trying to prevent the delivery of, she then had to run to the station to stop her own son, also now back in time, from ensuring his younger self turned evil. Von IV shot her, but non-fatally as he couldn't bring himself to execute his own mother. She managed to provide Rebecca with the materials needed to complete their timeline-healing mission, before being taken to hospital.

Personality and Traits:
Similar to Canon Azumi but more adventurous. Speaks somewhere between the flowing poetry of IRitF Azumi and the straightforward speech of Canon Azumi. Has expert theoretical knowledge of martial arts, first aid and pickpocketing.

AZUMI (IRitF)

Full Name: Azumi Ericho-Insanity
Other Media: It Runs in the Family
Villainy Status: Heroine
Kill Count: 0
Death Count: 0

History:
Seems to mimic that of the canon Azumi up until the point where Canon Azumi left her husband. This Azumi did not, despite apparent continued abuse. She did however sneak away to speak to her son when he appeared asking for help, and when Loki and Von III had a confrontation she sided with Loki, at the cost of being beaten senseless by her husband. Loki carried her to his lab and fixed her up, and she was last seen helping Reeve lead the evacuation of Midgar with Joanna, whom she has once more adopted.

Personality and Traits:
Virtually identical to the canon Azumi, but more poetic in her speech.

BOB (FWoaN)

Full Name: Bob
Other Media: For Want of a Nail
Villainy Status: Villain
Kill Count: unclear, but he himself gives it in the thousands, including several Turks, Von III and President Insanity (sort of)
Death Count: 1

History:
Early life presumably similar to that of the canon FFVII Bob. Became a terrorist to bring down Insanity's government, but never acheived much despite killing thousands. During an attack on Shin-Ra city, he came across Project Multiverse and decided to go back for another look. Upon arrival, he found Von III and Insanity fighting, and killed both, before tricking the Sourceworlder into showing him how things worked and going back in time. After arriving at the wrong place and having to kill several Turks, blow a hole in a wall, release a monster and choke a dog, he tried to ensure Insanity's death by preventing him from getting to Muddy Mugs, but was stopped by Azumi. He then tried to intercept Insanity at the coffee house and kill him, but choked on an unnoticed Materia in his coffee and was given the Heinrich by Loki. Afterwards he was killed by the Insanity from his universe, having followed him back in time.

Personality and Traits:
An excellent and ruthless fighter who firmly believes that the end result justifies any killing done to get there.

BRALL (IRitF)

Full Name: Brall
Other Media: It Runs in the Family
Villainy Status: Hero
Kill Count: implied 1
Death Count: 0

History:
Taken to Midgar with Loki to collect Roddy, and taken to see Von III when it transpires both are wanted in the city. Brall was captured by Von III's guards while Loki escaped, and he was knocked out at some point. When Loki arrived to save him, Brall played unconscious until what he deemed an opportune moment, at which point he took out two guards about to kill Loki. While Loki went to the Shin-Ra labs with his mother, Brall locked the now-unconscious Von III in a cupboard, knowing full well that he would probably be killed in the Meteor strike, cleaned and polished Mr Shiny the bike and awaited Loki's return.

Personality and Traits:
Virtually identical to Canon Brall. It does however come across more that this Brall finds Loki distinctly odd.

PRESIDENT INSANITY

Full Name: President Von Insanity IV
Other Media: For Want of a Nail
Villainy Status: Villain
Kill Count: 1 (Bob), not counting himself.
Death Count: 3

History:
Followed Loki's until the point where Brall filed a complaint. In this universe, he didn't. Insanity killed Brall and went on to continue his position as Hojo's protégé, killing Joanna also. When Shin-Ra collapsed, Insanity and a few colleagues started 'Operation Pheonix', in which they rebuilt a New Shin-Ra from what was left of the old one, with Insanity as the President. He imprisoned Von III, the Sourceworlder and Azumi, and killed anyone else he deemed dangerous, including Cloud Strife, Vincent Valentine, Bugenhagen and Rebecca's father Hisashi. He also had the technology that had been keeping Joanna alive transplanted into his own heart.
Upon learning of his cousin's existence, he took an interest in her and showed her the Sourceworlder. When she helped the SOurceworlder to escape and the Sourceworlder freed Shelke, Insanity panicked, thinking Hojo had returned from the dead, and set off to confront them. He was held off by Shelke in Von III's body until killed by Bob.
After ressurecting, he went back in time to ensure his younger self took the same moral route he had, using the Presidential passcodes to authorise a manhunt for Rebecca and Bob, sending a thug to kill Bob and waiting to intercept and kill Brall. When confronted by his mother, he found himself able to kill her, so shot her in the leg and committed suicide.
After ressurecting again, he made his way to Muddy Mugs coffee house to talk to his younger self in person. Upon arriving he murdered Bob, but was finally killed in a fight with Rebecca by a lightsabre to the heart.

Personality and Traits:
Exaggerated negative aspects of Loki with none of the positive ones, save his love for Azumi. Obsessed with coffee to the point of destroying towns to grown plantations. An able fighter with no qualms about killing people. Can heal from any injury and most forms of death duce to technology implanted in his heart.

LOKI (IRitF)

Full Name: Professor Von "Loki" Insanity IV, AKA "Mitsukai"
Other Media: It Runs in the Family
Villainy Status: hero
Kill Count: unclear
Death Count: 0 (although he may be recently dead by the end)

History:
As with Canon Loki up until the decision to send someone to get Roddy. In this universe, Loki went himself, taking Brall with him. Finding that they were wanted by the Midgar police, he sought help from his father Von III, who rejected him. his mother Azumi took pity on him and agreed to help, but in returning to the Insanity household to pick up Brall they were attacked by Von III and his guards. Loki lost his temper after seeing Azumi attacked by Von III and the duelled, Loki eventually emerging the winner. He then took Azumi to his lab to give her medical attention, collected Roddy, supplied the means for his mother to free Reeve Tsuetsi and evacuate the city, and left again with Brall.

Personality and Traits:
Essentially identical to Canon Loki during the latter part of the game, when he was more heroic.

REBECCA

Full Name: Rebecca Ericho
Other Media: For Want of a Nail
Villainy Status: Heroine
Kill Count: 1 (President Insanity)
Death Count: 0… probably.

History:
The daughter of Azumi's little sister Xoco and an implied freedom fighter named Hisashi, both of whom died because of the President's actions. Rebecca became a prominent New Shin-Ra scientist but was dragged before the President for allowing Bob to escape after he held her friend hostage. The President took an interest in her and she was shown Subject One - the Sourceworlder. After the Sourceworlder managed to contact her, she helped him escape and agreed to be sent back in time to fix the damaged timeline.
After being stalled by a fight with some Turks, she made it in time to telepathically convince Brall to file his complaint. Later, however, she was forced to act again to prevent Loki dying in Muddy Mugs. Without time to get the train, she used a lightsabre sent back in time by Bugenhagen to cut through the plate she was on, and rode to the ground on a chocomog summon stolen from Insanity. She managed to reach the coffee house just in time to knock the Ifrit materia from Enrico Spike's hand, where it landed in Bob's drink and was choked on, ensuring the timeline continued as intended. She was then confronted by President Insanity who attempted to kill her but was killed when she managed to stab him through the heart with the lightsabre.
Whether she was deleted from existence when the timelines healed and, if so, whether there is a 'canon' version of her wandering around anywhere, is unclear.

Personality and Traits:
Noteable for being one of the few major Combat Dome characters so far who are genuinely bad at fighting, having to rely on Shelke several times and succeeding elsewhere through dumb luck. She is, however, an intelligent and capable scientist, and one of the few people from the FWoaN universe with a non-twisted moral code.

SHELKE (FWoaN)

Full Name: Shelke the Transparent
Other Media: For Want of a Nail
Villainy Status: Heroine
Kill Count: 0
Death Count: 0… probably

History:
Follows that of canon Shelke up until her fight with Loki, which here never happened. Instead, one of the New Shin-Ra scientists imprisoned her soul and mind inside a piece of technology to allow it to link human minds with computers. She was kept in check by the President's computer, J.O.A.N.N.A, until the Sourceworlder freed her and destroyed J.O.A.N.N.A by overloading the latter's mind. She then helped the Sourceworlder to set history back onto the canon path, using her gift with computers to help with the technical side of things, the unusual nature of her mind to provide communication across time, and her fighting skill to repeatedly save the Sourceworlder and Rebecca - despite not having a body. At the end, she is sent to the Sourceworld to ensure that the story gets written, thereby manually stabilising their time-meddling. What happened to her afterwards is unknown.

Personality and Traits:
Generally nicer than her canon counterpart (apparently, prolongued mental imprisonment makes you a better person. Who knew?). She is, however, fairly sarcastic and stoic, showing little emotion except when struggling in a fight or thankful for being set free.
An incredible fighter, but significantly hindered by her lack of physical form. Can speak to any computer or human mind telepathically.

The SOURCEWORLDER (FWoaN)

Full Name: Calum P Cameron
Other Media: For Want of a Nail
Villainy Status: Hero
Kill Count: 0, not counting computers
Death Count: probably 0

History:
Confusing. It seems this is the same Sourceworlder as the canon one, but due to the history of Gaia changing his personal history changes also. Here he was hunted down by the man who would become President Insanity and subsequently imprisoned and experimented on, spending around a decade wired up to Insanity's computer J.O.A.N.N.A, so that the President could access his thoughts while his technology was used to create a safe way of travelling between universes. Somehow, he was able to protect all of his important knowledge until such time as he could access J.O.A.N.N.A's mind, freeing Shelke from inside it and sending a message to Rebecca, who then freed him.

In order to correct history, he then sent Rebecca back in time to remove the 'Source Inconsistency' (Loki's killing of Brall). Unfortunately, Bob tricked him into showing him how to use the time machine, and he then had to send Azumi back also to stop Bob screwing things up further… and then improvise rapidly when it transpired that President Insanity had also travelled back in time. Unable to intervene personally due to being needed in the future to stabilise the timelines from his end, he took the role of 'Mission Control' to Rebecca and Azumi. Once the timeline was finally fixed, he then made their changes concrete by sending Shelke across universes to implant the idea of the story in his younger self's mind.

Presumably, he subsequently ceased to exist as the Canon Sourceworlder's history came back.

Personality and Traits:
Similar to that of the canon Sourceworlder, although his decade of mind-probing has changed his mind slightly. Much of what he deemed 'non-useful information' he has forgotten, but he is still capable of operating the Project Multiverse technology better than anyone else. Tends to voice his trains of thought aloud when stressed.

TESTOFFOLESE

Full Name: The Mighty God Testoffolese
Other Media: The New Combat Dome "Test Character Creation Form"
Villainy Status: Probably villain
Kill Count: unknown
Death Count: 0

VON III (FWoaN)

Full Name: Von Insanity III (it's unclear whether he still retains his Ryuu Osamu title)
Other Media: For Want of a Nail
Vilainy Status: Vaguely neutral
Kill Count: 0
Death Count: 1

History:
His son, President Insanity, took revenge for a traumatic childhood by having Von III wired into J.O.A.N.N.A and constantly fed an artificial simulation of terror. After an unknown period of time J.O.A.N.N.A was destroyed, and Von III, now free, went to hunt down and kill Insanity. Unfortunately for him, no sooner had he found his prey than his body was hijacked by Shelke for use as a weapon, and he was subsequently killed by Bob.

Personality and Traits:
His torture has apparently broken his mind, leaving little coherent thought other than his hatred of President Insanity. He is, however, an able fighter due to muscle memory from fencing, hunting, dancing and other upper-class sports.

VON III (IRitF)

Full Name: Ryuu Osamu Von Insanity III
Other Media: It Runs in the Family
Villainy Status: Villain
Kill Count: 0
Death Count: implied 1

History:
Loki's father and an old friend of Hojo. He gave Loki to Hojo to train when Loki was young and is implied to be one of the most powerful sponsors of Shin-Ra. When Loki comes to him for help, he is disgusted by what his son has become and refuses. When Azumi helps Loki, he forces her to choose between them and beats her unconscious when she makes the 'wrong' decision. He is then attacked by Loki, and knocked unconscious in the fight. Brall afterwards drags him inside and locks him in a cupboard, in the knowledge that he's unlikely to escape before the Meteor hits.

Personality and Traits:
Has most of the negative aspects of his son's personality without any of the good ones. Also has a similar worldview to Hojo's, but without the insanity. Believes that, as his motto says, all things are possible through gold. Also has rather archaic views on the duty of a woman to her husband. Surprisingly also an able fighter; subsequent fan-fiction FWoaN implies that this is because, as a nobleman, he is obligated to practise hunting, dancing, fencing and other vaguely movement-based sports.
